It's all over ....

Yes, it was wonderful
Yes, we all got lots of scrapping done
Yes, everyone appeared to have a good time
BUT I'm exhausted and I said that I will not be doing another one again.........

I got the most wonderful chocolate story which I will photograph and post but I could not bring myself to break into the chocolates!

In total there were 155 l/os completed; 5 mini-albums and mostly everyone completed thier birthday books.

So even though I have said "NO MORE" at the same time I love going away for a weekend's scrapping with friends, so how to solve that problem. One way is that I am responsible for the accommodation and a FEW extras and everyone else is divided into teams of five and those teams are responsible for one breakfast, one lunch, and one dinner each and the cleanup.
Your comments please ladies

Question I was asked

Can we combine two ( or more ) challenges? Like 'Then and Now' and 'One colour/one B&W' ?

Now you can't do any of these challenges until SC so you'll have to wait for the rules :-)

Weather

Keep an eye on this site for the weather forecast - so far fine, but cloudy and maybe some rain on Sunday

Not long to go now!

I have cooked the mince for nachos, browned the sausages and its all in the freezer. The butcher kindly chopped up all the chicken for me. The groceries are in bags downstairs waiting for Helen to arrive tomorrow. Some boxes of yummy s/b related things are also packed and ready to go. Today I will make the broccoli salad. I just have the fresh goods to buy (bread, salad etc) tomorrow, fetch Irene and Katrina from the airport then we can go!

A bribe

Kris has bribed me to give you all some more challenges to prepare for, so here are two (equal to the number of items she offered ;-) )

10. Describe your child (or someone else) as a unique species in the animal kingdom (make up a “Latin” name too!)
14. Use numbers to describe someone’s personality/life (eg 2 sets of car keys lost, 2 countries lived in, 2 children)

Arrival time on Thursday night around 5.30pm will be great

By Special Request ......

Here is a summary of all the Challenges I have sent you so far (and a few more):

2. Make a l/o about someone’s (or your) quirks
3. Use black & white AND coloured photos on the same l/o
5. Scrapbook some out-takes
6. Incorporate another craft
7. Visit www.puzzlemaker.com <http://www.puzzlemaker.com> and make a wordfind (or other puzzle) about your family (or other)
8. Scrapbook a collection (eg your shoes, your child’s shells etc)
13. Use www.metaatem.net/words <http://www.metaatem.net/words> for a funky page title (copy to a Word document and print it before coming away)
15. Find a set of index prints and use every one on a l/o
19. Do a "Then & Now" page

And then there is an ANZAC l/o and a "love" l/o!

As next weekend is a long weekend, I would suggest that those who are coming from Wellington are at Paremata round-about by at least 4.30pm

Don’t forget your bedding and all toiletries and towel; a small slice or similar to share; any drinks other than tea/coffee; money for the two shops that will be represented and prepare to have fun!

Eighteen Days To Go

For those of you who work outside the home you only have today and another two weekends to get ready – YAY! (Actually that’s pretty scary for me!)

Here are another two challenges for you:
#2 Scrapbook your (or someone else’s) quirks …… or how two of you in the same family have the same quirks

#13 Use www.metaatem.net/words for a funky page title: where the space is at "Spell", type your word in and then click on the "spell" button just on the right. Click on each letter to change it, and right click, then Copy and then Paste into a word document which you can then print before coming away

You should now have Challenges 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 8, 13, 15 & 19

Four weeks to go

In less than four weeks time we will be at ScrapCamp! I must say I am really looking forward to three days of scrapping, relaxing and chatting. I got lots of photos printed, but have seen some photos of my boys when they were little and now I want to scrap those too! So much to do, so little time!

About the Challenges – they’re just some fun ideas that you may wish to do (or not!) Remember the preparation is done now, but the actual scrapping happens at camp. And about that US word "out-takes" – it means the photos that you normally wouldn’t use eg someone pulling a funny face in a group photo

So Challenge # 19: Do a Then & Now l/o (I have the perfect photos); and

Challenge # 8 Scrapbook a collection (eg your shoes, your child’s shells etc)

A few photos first:

And what you need:

Tools:
Cutting blade
Basic Grey file set or similar small tools (to sand inside small holes for
rings)
3 x coloured pens that match papers e.g. souffle, glaze pens or similar (could get away with 2 pens if necessary)

Xyron cheetah or similar guttsy glue (to put papers onto Maya Rd album)
Other glue of choice (to glue in calendar pages)
Materials
5 co-ordinating patterned papers
Matching cardstock x 3 colours - only need a small amount 6"x2" would be plenty
A paint that will match papers (to paint edges of pages)
Mini ink pad that matches papers Black ink pad (mini is fine)
Embellishments of choice e.g. letter stickers (for title page, rub ons, stickers etc to match papers) keep embellishemnts small - letter stickers can be up to 3" tall)
Print off pages for calendar that I will send to everyone as an excel spreadsheet onto co-ordinating cardstock (remember to print off sufficient 31, 30, 29 & 28 days for the 12 months of the year) - don't trim pages down until you arrive (these are a tight fit so better to do it there)..

Challenge #5

Scrapbook some outtakes. Outtakes - now there's a real US word meaning those photos where someone is not smiling nicely for the camera (or whatever) and we all have them. Could be quite fun to scrap some

Challenge # 3

Use black & white AND coloured photos

Monday, March 17, 2008

Answer to another question

How many pages will I get done?

When you go to an all-day crop how pages do you normally do? Multiply that number by 3 and add a few and that's how many you should get done. But, as my friend Yvette says, it also depends on how much talking you do!

Challenges

There will be 21 challenges some of which I will post here (because you will need to do some preparation) and the rest will be given to you at Camp. For every challenge that you do, you will earn one entry into a lucky draw. No more than two challenges per l/o and no more than three of any one kind will be allowed. Remember all challenges are entirely optional

Final Payments

Just a reminder that final payments are due by Tuesday 18th March - thanks

How to assemble page kits

1. Working with one set of photos at a time, pull out a set of photos for a layout. Don't worry about the exact number or final placement on the page; you can always re-file the unused ones when the layout is complete. Put them all in a page protector, envelope or 12*12 plastic bag

2. Go through your existing embellishments and look for stickers, accents, swap items that fit the theme you're going for. Add to the page protector.

3. Pick your color scheme and pull out the cardstock choices you will probably use and add to the kit. In general, pick a base color and 1 or 2 accent colors. If you're not 100% sure about the color scheme, then narrow it down to 2 color schemes and put them both in the bag (with the intent to file the unused paper when you're done)

4. Pick matching patterned paper, if using. Add to the kit. (you might pick your patterned paper first, then cardstock to match)

5. If you have a layout in mind to scraplift, print it off your computer, write down the page number from the idea book, sketch it, or cut it out and add to the kit.

6. Plan your journaling. Type it and print it out on coordinating paper (or vellum!) or just write your thoughts down and add your notes to the kit for hand journaling later. Be sure to leave space on the layout if you plan to add your journaling later. You can journal by hand or by computer, just be sure to leave room!

7. Doing any techniques or embellishments? Add your eyelets, beads, wire, fibers, stamps, etc. (sandwich size Ziploc bags are great for keeping little things together inside the bigger bag) As you add the finishing touches, on a scrap of paper or a sticky note, make a list of the tools you'll need to complete the layout, such as eyelet setters or a special adhesive.

8. Missing any ingredients? Make a list of what you need to complete each kit and take it shopping. Better yet, take your page kits shopping for even more inspiration! Do your shopping in advance of attending a crop so you can spend your crop time cropping.

**An alternative to the Ziploc bag or page protector is a pizza box or other sturdy box, like the storage boxes some albums come in. Once you've assembled the components of each layout, layer the layouts in the box. Begin with a bottom layer of paper for the first layout, then the matching stickers and other ingredients and finally photos on top. Add the next layer of paper, followed by all the smaller stuff. Continue adding as you compile each layout. If you're assembling an entire album, layer your layouts in the order they'll appear in the album, with the first page on top, last page on the bottom. When you're ready to scrap, start with the top layer!

One last note on archival safety...The cardboard of pizza boxes is not acid free, nor is the plastic of Ziploc bags (though they're probably the better choice), and are suggested only as temporary storage. The purpose of preparing these kits is to speed up your scrapping and improve efficiently. We hope you will be scrapping these photos within days or weeks, not months or years. If archival safety is of top priority to you, please consider investing in acid-free, pvc-free storage containers.

Seven Weeks To Go

Yes, that’s all – seven weeks to go! Seven weeks tomorrow, we will be packing our cars and heading north or south towards a great weekend.

By now, you should be considering what photos to get printed (yeah right, Jenny – heed your own advice) and generally thinking about what you want to scrap. Unlike a number of other camps, this one should really be called a retreat. Apart from the wonderful Jo who leads a fantastic class for us every year, and a few non-compulsory challenges, the rest of the time is scrapping time. A time for you to catch up and do as much or as little scrapping as you like. Forrest Lakes also has some lovely walks so there is time to get out and enjoy the fresh air (and take more photos) too. The Bendon factory shop is in Otaki just five minutes away for those who need new lingerie.

I will send out a few more emails; one will have information about making page kits; as we get closer to the time.

At this stage, I would like to thank the wonderful Steph at Up2Scrap for the huge box of goodies I received today. Steph never forgets us and I am very grateful to her for that

If you email me a photo of yourself getting your photos ready for Camp by next Wednesday at 8pm, I will put all the names in a hat for an RAK to be given to you at camp. Keep checking back here as you may see some more challenges appearing!

Some updates

Well, the updates have been a loooooooong time coming but here we go!

ScrapCamp is full - but I am taking names for a waiting list

Total cost is $180 which covers your bed, food, and scrapping space for three days. There will be a few extra treats of the scrapping variety for you.

Once again our lovely Jo is going to do a class for us! This will require patterned paper, c/s paint and whatever embellishments you may want to put onto it. "It" is a Maya Road chipboard book and I will show some pics when JO has had a chance to do it up

There will be a challenge (or two) ........ for the first one, think ANZAC Day and bring approriate photos

Please let me know your dietary requirements as Marie and I are starting to put together the menu
